Gavin Williams

Gavin started his writing career as a short story and prose writer, as well as reviewing film, music and books for magazines. His acclaimed novel, “Hush” (a collaboration with Tim Lebbon) was published by Razorblade Press in 2000 and was short-listed for a British Fantasy Society Award in Best Novel category. 


Gavin took part in Scottish Screen’s First Shot and Movie Makars workshops, then – after his successful first short film – he won a commission for HTV’s WESTERN LIGHTS talent strand.  In 2001 he received a Writer’s Development Bursary from Yorkshire Television. 


In 2007 Gavin was part of Northern Film and Media and BBC Writersroom’s North East Voices scheme to develop TV series ideas with mentor Michael Chaplin (Monarch of the Glen). He was a finalist for the Red Planet Prize 2009.

LIES MY BROTHER TOLD ME - Developed 60’ comedy drama series with The Comedy Unit (Rab C. Nesbitt, Still Game) (2010).


SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE - Developing 30’ comedy drama series with Newcastle-based production company RS Productions. Supported with development funding from Northern Film and Media. (2009).


THE KIN - 60’ pilot for original science fiction drama series optioned by Burrad Marsh, Head of TV Series Development at Alchemy TV, Los Angeles (2008).


BOFFINS - 30 min sitcom script developed with DLT Entertainment (My Family) and producer, John Bartlett (2007).


MAD FRANKIE WHEELER - Commissioned to write 60’pilot for comedy drama series for Carlton TV. (2003).


LIPSTICKING - Development work and pilot for original comedy drama series commissioned by ITV Productions Leeds. (2003).     


URBAN GOTHIC - Commission for second series of Channel 5 series. Blackjack/HTV. (2001).


BAITED BREATH - 30 minute drama for Western Lights talent spot.  Starred Stuart Wells (Billy Elliott) and directed by Jon Wilson. (2001).


 

SLEEPWORKING - Commissioned by Northern Film and Media in partnership with Soda Pictures and Failbetter Games to write and direct this science fiction short after winning 'Shorted' film challenge (2011).  Currently accepted into 7 film festivals including Sci-Fi London 2013


FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS - Developing horror feature with Newcastle-based Shudder Films which has received 100,000k production funding from the N-Star Creative Content Fund.


ANOTHER GIRL ANOTHER PLANET - Romantic Comedy developed with Pinball Films and MEDIA funding. Currently available (2006).


BREATH - Short film selected as a WRITER-DIRECTOR project for the Stingers initiative, the annual digital short Film Scheme from Northern Film and Media, run in partnership with the UK Film Council.


HAVE IT - Original comedy feature commissioned by Offset Films.


SUSURRUS - Horror film developed with Pilgrim Films. Currently available. (2001).


ROB OF THE ROVERS - Short film produced by Pinball Films, starring Gary Lewis (Billy Elliott, Gangs of New York).  Long-listed for a BAFTA 2001 and screened at Bradford International Film Festival as part of Best of British strand. (2001).


THE NEWCASTLE STORY - All scriptwriting for new exhibition at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, including nine short Victorian film dramas and six audio pieces. (2001).  

HEAVEN'S GOT TALENT - Commission for Durham Gala Theatre for their modernised cycle of Mystery Plays. Staged on May 27-29th 2010 and sold out for entire run.

DRIVER - Original novel in the DRIVER videogame universe. Published by Transworld August 2011 under pseudonym, Alex Sharp.


HUSH - Novel with Tim Lebbon (Razorblade Press, 2000).  Short-listed for August Derleth Award for Best Novel in British Fantasy Awards 2001. Republished by US-based Delirium Books (2005).


CINEMA MACABRE - An article on David Lynch’s “Eraserhead” featured in this 2007 British Fantasy Society Award Winning collection of film writing edited by Mark Morris.


TALES FROM THE TEETH PARK - Edited a collection of short fiction for Razorblade Press.


Also various short stories including THE SPECIAL FAVOUR and THE COLD (both selected for Recommended Reading list in Best New Horror 11 and 10).   Gavin has been nominated for the Best Short Story Award by the British Fantasy Society and in 2000 won Best Short Fiction Award at the World Horror Convention in Denver, Colorado.


THE TIME MACHINE - Part of writing team on educational interactive Alternate Reality Game for the Tyneside Cinema and regional schools. (2011)
