Gul won the J.B. Priestly Award for Young Writers in 2000, and has also won awards from the Royal Literary Fund, the Financial Times and the Koestler Awards Trust. His writing has appreared in various magazines and anthologies, and one of his short stories was adapted and broadcast for BBC Radio 4. He is currently at work on a new novel.
